Organized by the Município de Paredes de Coura in the framework of the European GREEN GAP project, the congress highlighted the need to integrate nature into inhabited spaces in order to address current environmental challenges. During the event, several conferences addressed key issues such as territorial management, biodiversity and the impact of climate change on green infrastructures. In addition, success stories were presented on the recovery of natural spaces and the application of sustainable practices in the urban environment, with the aim of inspiring other localities to replicate these models. One of the highlights was the practical day in the Taboão natural area, where participants were able to learn first-hand about environmental management techniques applied in collaboration with local communities.
These demonstrations underlined the importance of involving inhabitants in the protection and care of their environment.
The congress concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the GREEN GAP project partners to the creation of green infrastructure in the cross-border territory between Galicia and Portugal, underlining the crucial role of nature-based solutions in fostering green infrastructure in the region, as well as the importance of the local communities’ participation in the development of green infrastructure.
